Hello. I'm Ted Schurter, a visual journalist.

I spent years documenting storytelling moments everywhere from the sidelines to the statehouse for a mid-sized, midwestern daily newspaper. I also collaborated with other editors to plan and shape content in print and online.

I love the power of still and moving images to convey emotion and information, and bear witness to our common humanity.

I click more than shutter buttons, though. I enjoy using R and other tools to clean and analyze data and build compelling maps and visualizations. Communicating clearly with data, images and words, and distilling complex topics into understandable stories is a challenge I enjoy.
